RoHS (also known as directive 2002/95/EC) stands for restriction of hazardous substances. This European Union directive was passed in 2002 to restrict the use of six hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic components. In 2011, directive 2011/65/EU (also known as RoHS-Recast or RoHS 2) was introduced and included a CE-marking directive, added categories 8 & 9, and required additional recordkeeping requirements. In 2015, directive 2015/863 (also known as RoHS 3) added an additional four restricted substances.

RoHS specifies maximum levels for the following 10 restricted substances:

Cadmium (Cd): < 100 ppm
Lead (Pb): < 1000 ppm
Mercury (Hg): < 1000 ppm
Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI): < 1000 ppm
Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): < 1000 ppm
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): < 1000 ppm
Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): < 1000 ppm
Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): < 1000 ppm
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): < 1000 ppm
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): < 1000 ppm

All ZPE products have been fully tested for hazardous substances per analysis guidelines outlined in the IEC 62321:2008 standard and are certified to be in compliance with all mandates.
